“81 Compositions (R,G,B)” consists of 4 cathode-ray tube TVs. Each screen plays a looping video of a fully red, green, or blue field—randomized and without a detectable pattern. A total of 81 unique combinations or compositions will eventually appear over time. Each TV’s video loop is approximately three minutes long and varies in length by 1 frame. This offset causes a delay in repetition, completing a full loop after one full week of running continuously. The transitions between compositions can sometimes be gentle and pleasantly animated—other times strikingly harsh and abrupt.
